Joe Biden responds to Elton John’s curse on stage with a simple hand gesture.

Elton John, the legendary singer, made a powerful statement against anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric at an event in New York on Friday. Joined by President Joe Biden on stage at the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center in Greenwich Village, John did not hold back as he spoke out in support of the LGBTQ+ community.

Addressing the audience, John emphasized the importance of standing up for values and rejecting misinformation and scapegoating. He punctuated his speech with an expletive, declaring, “No fucking way!” President Biden, reacting with humor, laughed and applauded the singer, even making the sign of the cross in jest.

The Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center holds significant historical importance as the first LGBTQ+ visitor center in the National Park Service network. Dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Stonewall Inn, the site of the 1969 rebellion that sparked the LGBTQ+ rights movement, the center serves as a beacon of acceptance and remembrance.

As the event marked the 55th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising, President Biden reflected on the profound impact of those events on the nation’s soul. Describing it as a pivotal moment in history that tested the country’s resolve, Biden praised the resilience and courage of the LGBTQ+ community.

Emphasizing the ongoing battle for the soul of America, Biden expressed hope and determination in the face of adversity. He commended the attendees for their pride, hope, and resilience, stating confidently, “I know this is a battle we’re going to win.”

For Elton John, being present at the event held special significance as he reflected on the events that transpired 55 years ago at Stonewall. The singer expressed gratitude for the opportunity to commemorate the uprising and celebrate the progress made in LGBTQ+ rights since then.

However, amidst the spirit of celebration, John did not shy away from addressing the challenges that persist. He highlighted the alarming reality of over 500 anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced in state legislatures across the country this year, condemning it as “disgraceful.”

As the fight for LGBTQ+ rights continues, events like the one at the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center serve as a reminder of the progress made and the work that lies ahead. With influential figures like Elton John and President Biden using their platforms to advocate for equality and acceptance, there is hope for a more inclusive and just future for all.
