John Bolton says only two questions are important in Trump’s VP decision

Former President Donald Trump is getting closer to selecting his running mate, and it seems that he may only be asking two crucial questions of each candidate before making his decision. According to former national security adviser John Bolton, these are the questions that matter most to Trump: Do you believe the 2020 election was stolen? And if I asked you to do what I told Mike Pence to do on Jan. 6, would you do it?

Reports indicate that three individuals are still in the running for the Republican VP spot: Senator JD Vance of Ohio, Governor Doug Burgum of North Dakota, and Senator Marco Rubio of Florida. While Vance and Burgum are considered front-runners, Rubio is seen as more of a long shot.

Bolton emphasized that giving the right answers to these questions could improve the candidates’ standing with Trump, but it would come at a cost. He noted that it would be a significant loss of integrity for any candidate to agree to both questions. Bolton stressed that Trump prioritizes absolute personal loyalty above all else.

On the topic of loyalty, Bolton recalled the events of January 6, 2021, when then-Vice President Mike Pence defied Trump’s wishes during the Capitol riots. Despite Pence’s loyalty to Trump, he stood up to the former president on that crucial day. Bolton expressed doubt about whether the current VP hopefuls – Vance, Burgum, and Rubio – would be willing to challenge Trump in a similar manner.

Trump has hinted that he will reveal his choice of running mate at the upcoming Republican National Convention. Bolton, however, believes that Trump should hold off on the announcement while the Biden campaign is still grappling with questions about the president’s mental acuity and ability to lead effectively. Bolton suggested that making the announcement at a time when Democrats are questioning Biden’s competence would be a strategic move.

While many speculate that Vance or Burgum will be Trump’s pick, Bolton cautioned that Trump’s decisions are never set in stone until the final moment – and even then, there may still be surprises. The former president is known for keeping his choices close to the chest until he is ready to reveal them.
