Kamala Harris campaigns in Wisconsin and talks about her background as a prosecutor.

With the 2024 presidential election drawing nearer, Vice President Kamala Harris is making her mark in the battleground state of Wisconsin. Her campaign rally in Milwaukee marked her first public appearance since launching her bid for the presidency.

Harris, addressing the enthusiastic crowd, emphasized the importance of Wisconsin in the quest for the White House. “The path to the White House goes through Wisconsin,” she declared confidently. “We are counting on you right here in Milwaukee… and in 2024, we will win again.”

During her speech, Harris commended President Biden, who recently announced the end of his reelection campaign. She lauded his accomplishments in a single term, asserting that he has already surpassed the legacies of most presidents who served two terms.

One of the key themes of Harris’ rally was her background as a prosecutor in California, juxtaposed with the legal troubles faced by former President Donald Trump. Harris drew parallels between her experiences tackling various crimes and wrongdoings and Trump’s legal woes. She asserted, “I took on perpetrators of all kinds… hear me when I say I know Donald Trump’s type.”

Highlighting her expertise in prosecuting sexual abuse cases, Harris pointed out Trump’s own legal entanglements in that regard. She also emphasized her actions against financial misconduct, contrasting them with Trump’s recent legal issues related to fraud.

As the evening progressed, Harris’ campaign announced that it had raised an impressive $100 million. She also garnered the support of a majority of Democratic delegates who will participate in the upcoming roll call vote to nominate the party’s candidate. These achievements were proudly mentioned by Harris during her rally, where she vowed to unite the Democratic Party in preparation for the upcoming election.

The formal vote to nominate Harris as the Democratic presidential candidate is slated to occur in early August, preceding the Democratic National Convention. Prior to her rally in West Allis, a Milwaukee suburb, Harris received endorsements from influential political figures like Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi.

This event marked Harris’ fifth visit to Wisconsin this year and her ninth since assuming the vice presidency. Accompanied by Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers and Senator Tammy Baldwin, among other officials and labor leaders, Harris continues to strengthen her presence in the state.

The rally comes in the wake of President Biden’s decision to step aside from the Democratic presidential nomination. Just before this announcement, a CBS News poll explored a hypothetical match-up between Trump and Harris. The poll results indicated that Harris trailed Trump by a narrow margin of three points among likely voters and leaners, reflecting a tighter race compared to Biden’s position against the former president.

As the political landscape evolves and the 2024 election looms closer, Kamala Harris remains a formidable presence on the campaign trail. With her focus on key issues and commitments to unifying the Democratic Party, Harris is poised to make a significant impact on the upcoming presidential race.
