Kamala Harris compliments Biden’s accomplishments after announcing 2024 bid
Vice President Kamala Harris delivered high praise for President Biden on Monday, hailing his accomplishments in the early years of his presidency. She boldly claimed that he has achieved more in a single term than most presidents have in two terms, all while working with less time on his side. This declaration came during the opening remarks at the White House event celebrating the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championship teams.
Surprisingly, Biden decided to step aside and halt his 2024 presidential campaign after facing mounting pressure to do so. In a heartfelt letter posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, he expressed, “It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president. While I had intended to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interests of my party and the country for me to step down and concentrate solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term.”
Following Biden’s announcement, the President endorsed Harris as his successor. In response, Harris expressed her gratitude, saying, “I am deeply honored to have the President’s endorsement, and my goal is to earn and secure this nomination.” This endorsement marked a significant milestone in Harris’ political career, confirming her intention to run for the 2024 Democratic nomination.
Harris went on to laud the President, highlighting his honesty, integrity, faith, family values, compassion, and profound love for the nation. She emphasized that Biden consistently fights for the American people and expressed the nation’s deep appreciation for his service.
Despite Biden’s recent battle with COVID-19, Harris reassured attendees at the event that the President was on the mend and looking forward to resuming his duties. She revealed her plans to visit the campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, on her first official day of campaigning for the presidency, stating, “One day down, 105 to go. Together, we’re going to win this.”
While some Democratic leaders refrained from explicitly endorsing Harris following Biden’s announcement, a wave of high-profile endorsements rolled in on Monday morning. Many of these endorsements came from potential challengers, hinting at a lack of prominent opposition for Harris within the party. This overwhelming support could pave the way for Harris to unify the party around her candidacy as the presumptive nominee.
