Kamala Harris criticized for supporting IRA funding of ‘anti-American’ groups
Vice President Kamala Harris is facing criticism for her support of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and the organizations selected by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to receive grants under this law.
Senator Shelley Moore Capito, the ranking member of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, recently shared her investigation findings with reporters, shedding light on the groups receiving funding from the IRA.
In her investigation, Moore Capito highlighted that Harris had championed the IRA’s efforts to promote “equity” by allocating grants through the EPA to various left-wing organizations that were funded by the law in the previous year.
During her statement, Moore Capito raised concerns about the nature of the groups receiving money, stating that many of them are engaged in activities that she described as “anti-American.” These organizations were found to hold beliefs that are anti-American, antisemitic, anti-Israel, anti-police, and anti-border security.
Among the organizations identified by Moore Capito were the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, the Climate Justice Alliance (CJA), the NDN Collective, the New York Immigration Coalition, and the New Jersey Alliance for Immigrant Justice. These groups were noted for their radical left-wing ideologies.
The Climate Justice Alliance, set to receive a $50 million grant from the EPA, has been accused of glorifying Hamas on social media and promoting the view that Israel has no right to exist. It has also framed the “free Palestine” movement as a climate justice issue and endorsed artwork symbolizing terrorist attacks on Israeli citizens.
The Ella Baker Center has been vocal in its support for defunding the police, while the NDN Collective has expressed a desire to defund the police and U.S. military. Both the New York Immigration Coalition and the New Jersey Alliance for Immigrant Justice have advocated for abolishing ICE or preventing its operations within their respective states.
When the groups selected for EPA grants were announced in December 2023, Harris emphasized the importance of equity in environmental investments, stating that the administration had put equity at the forefront of its climate initiatives.
However, Moore Capito’s investigation revealed political messaging from these organizations that may raise concerns. For example, the Green New Deal Network, associated with CJA and youth climate groups, is reportedly considering endorsing Harris for president.
The senator alleged that the EPA was rushing to distribute grants to these groups out of fear of a potential change in the administration, hinting at a return to power for former President Trump.
In response to these revelations, the EPA assured that it maintains strong oversight of all programs and enforces strict controls to ensure compliance with federal laws and regulations.
Harris’ office issued a statement condemning any affiliation with Hamas, emphasizing her opposition to the terrorist organization’s violent activities and threats against Israel and Jewish communities.
