Kamala Harris criticizes Trump for making hurricane disaster about himself

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Vice President Kamala Harris has spoken out against former President Donald Trump’s behavior, labeling it as irresponsible and self-centered. Harris criticized Trump for spreading misinformation about the available resources for the survivors of the devastating hurricane, stating that his actions are focused on himself rather than the people affected.

With more than 220 reported dead across six states following Hurricane Helene’s landfall in Florida on September 26, the situation remains dire. Adding to the urgency is another powerful hurricane, Milton, which is approaching the state this week.

Trump has been accused of spreading falsehoods about Helene and the response of the Biden-Harris administration to the crisis. Among his claims are that President Biden ignored calls from Georgia’s Republican governor, allegations that the White House is neglecting conservative-leaning areas impacted by the storm, and accusations that Harris misused FEMA’s disaster relief funds for housing undocumented immigrants.

Harris swiftly dismissed these claims, emphasizing that FEMA has ample resources available to assist those in need and help them rebuild their lives. She encouraged individuals affected by the hurricane to apply for the available support promptly to aid in their recovery.

Furthermore, Harris criticized Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a close ally of Trump, for engaging in what she termed as “political games.” The White House revealed that DeSantis had declined calls from Biden and Harris to discuss hurricane relief efforts and opted out of accompanying Biden on a tour to assess the damage in Florida.

Expressing her disappointment with DeSantis’s actions, Harris condemned his refusal to prioritize the welfare of the people over political agendas. She underscored the importance of elected officials fulfilling their oath to serve the public’s best interests rather than engaging in partisan tactics.

In response to the accusations, DeSantis claimed he was unaware of the calls made by Harris, thereby justifying his lack of response.

As the fallout from Hurricane Helene continues to unfold, the clash between political figures underscores the importance of leadership in times of crisis. While Harris and the Biden administration advocate for swift and effective aid to those affected, Trump and his supporters face criticism for spreading misinformation and prioritizing personal interests over the well-being of the American people.
