Kamala Harris hosting campaign rally in Milwaukee

Vice President Kamala Harris is gearing up for a campaign rally in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Tuesday. This marks her first rally since she launched her bid for the presidency. Harris made the announcement of her presidential campaign on a Sunday night, immediately after President Biden declared he was suspending his re-election effort. Notably, the president rallied behind Harris and endorsed her as his successor.

It was on Monday that Harris secured enough delegates for the Democratic Party’s nomination for president. However, the formal selection of the party’s nominee is set to take place next month in Chicago during the Democratic National Convention.

This upcoming rally in Milwaukee will be Harris’ ninth visit to Wisconsin since she assumed office as vice president in 2021. It also marks her fifth visit to the state thus far in the current year, as per information released by her campaign team.

“We’re thrilled to have Vice President Harris back in Wisconsin, a state she once called home. She will be rallying enthusiastic supporters following the announcement of her presidential campaign,” stated Brianna Johnson, the Wisconsin Communications Director for the Harris campaign, in a press release.

Every prominent Democratic elected official in Wisconsin has thrown their support behind Harris’ bid for the presidency. This includes Governor Tony Evers, every Democratic statewide elected official, Senator Tammy Baldwin, U.S. Representatives Gwen Moore and Mark Pocan, state legislative Democratic leaders, as well as the mayors of Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay, and various other cities across the state. Moreover, over 90% of Wisconsin delegates to the Democratic National Convention have endorsed Harris.

The Democratic Party in Wisconsin has initiated a coordinated campaign to back Harris’ White House aspirations. Johnson mentioned that there are 48 coordinated offices spread across 43 counties in the state, staffed by around 160 full-time workers who are already actively engaging with voters through door-to-door canvassing, phone calls, and outreach, urging them to vote for Harris and other Democrats in the upcoming November elections.

“We are poised to continue building on this momentum with events scheduled in all parts of the state this week, harnessing the grassroots enthusiasm for Kamala Harris that will be on full display in Milwaukee tomorrow,” affirmed Johnson.

Harris is prepared to “prosecute” the case against former President Trump, said Johnson. This statement likely alludes to Harris’ background as a prosecutor. Johnson emphasized that there is no better place than Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to underscore this contrast.

Last week, Republicans, including Trump and his running mate Senator J.D. Vance, were present in Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention. Johnson highlighted that the former president showcased his Project 2025 agenda, which includes plans to ban abortion nationwide, raise taxes for middle-class families, cut Social Security and Medicare, and grant Trump vast unchecked powers.

Project 2025 is a contentious initiative orchestrated by the conservative think tank, the Heritage Foundation. It was formulated by a group of conservatives, some of whom were former officials in the Trump administration. The initiative puts forth right-wing policy proposals for Trump’s potential presidency, such as replacing civil service employees with Trump loyalists, abolishing the Department of Education, criminalizing pornography, eliminating DEI programs, cutting Medicaid and Medicare funding, opposing abortion as healthcare, and injecting Christian values into government affairs.

Trump has distanced himself from Project 2025, describing parts of it as “absolutely ridiculous and abysmal,” and labeling its backers as being on the “radical right.” He has denied knowledge of the initiative and criticized it for its extreme and authoritarian nature.

During her visit to Milwaukee, Harris aims to spotlight the choice between Trump, whom she refers to as a “convicted felon who would drag this country backwards,” and her own “brighter vision for the future, where our freedoms are protected, and every American has a fair shot,” as stated by Johnson.
