Kamala Harris partners with Taylor Swift to reach young voters on Snapchat.
Kamala Harris’ campaign is leaving no stone unturned in its mission to connect with young voters, particularly those who are fans of Taylor Swift.
On the day of Taylor Swift’s much-anticipated Eras Tour performance in the US on October 18, the Democratic National Committee rolled out a special Snapchat filter designed exclusively for Swifties in key battleground states. This unique filter allows users to strike a pose beneath a virtual banner reading, “In My Voting Era.”
Not stopping there, the filter provides options for users to select from various topics endorsed by Harris, completing the phrase “Be fearless for…” as a nod to Swift’s popular album “Fearless” from 2008. Choices include “Democracy,” “Reproductive Rights,” “Climate Action,” and more.
“This election holds the power to shape the future for young voters, impacting issues like student loan debt relief and economic opportunities, as well as the preservation of rights. Democrats are actively engaging with young voters through various platforms, ensuring they have the necessary tools to exercise their right to vote,” stated Rosemary Boeglin, DNC communications director, regarding the Swiftie initiative.
The utilization of the Snapchat filter is just one of the innovative methods employed by Harris’ campaign to leverage Swift’s enthusiastic endorsement of the Democratic ticket. From selling friendship bracelets reminiscent of those favored by Swifties at Eras Tour to receiving a shout-out from her running mate Tim Walz during the vice presidential debate, the campaign is making every effort to connect with Swift’s dedicated fan base.
“I’m amazed by the diverse coalition that Kamala Harris has assembled, spanning from Bernie Sanders to Dick Cheney to Taylor Swift,” remarked Minnesota governor Walz during the debate. “They all share a vision of a brighter future for our country and a belief that our political landscape can evolve for the better.”
In her endorsement of Harris in September, Swift emphasized the critical importance of voting. “The research is in your hands, and the decision is yours to make,” she emphasized. “For those voting for the first time, remember that registration is key! Voting early also streamlines the process.”
