Kasabian’s song ‘Happenings’ reaches No. 1 in the UK, beating Taylor Swift.
Kasabian, the iconic Leicester rock band, has once again soared to the top of the charts with their seventh Official U.K. No. 1 album, Happenings. This latest release showcases the musical prowess of Sergio Pizzorno, Chris Edwards, Ian Matthews, and Tim Carter as they dethrone Taylor Swift to claim the coveted chart-topping spot.
Adding to their impressive repertoire of U.K. No. 1 albums, Happenings joins the ranks of Empire (2006), West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum (2009), Velociraptor! (2011), 48:13 (2014), For Crying Out Loud (2017), and The Alchemist’s Euphoria (2022). Their debut self-titled album peaked at No. 4, while Kasabian: The Albums compilation reached No. 22.
In an exclusive interview with the U.K. Official Charts, Pizzorno expressed the band’s gratitude by stating, “What’s up, pop pickers? That’s seven U.K. Official No. 1 albums on the spin. Thank you to our fans, the greatest in the world. We’re nothing without you, we absolutely adore you!” Kasabian also celebrated their achievement with a more colorful remark: “That’s wonderful, f–k yeah! Come on!”
Not only has Happenings topped the U.K. Official Albums Chart, but it also leads the Official Vinyl Albums Chart, making it the most popular vinyl record of the week. The album’s success extends to the U.K. Official Record Store Chart, solidifying Kasabian’s influence in the music industry.
Kasabian’s ascent to their seventh chart-topping album places them in the esteemed company of music legends such as Blur, Muse, The Prodigy, Paul McCartney, Barbra Streisand, Elton John, Cliff Richard, and Ed Sheeran.
Meanwhile, Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department takes a back seat as it drops to No. 2 after an impressive eight non-consecutive weeks at the top. Despite this, the album remains the U.K.’s biggest of 2024 so far, having sold over 542,000 chart units since its release in April.
Chappell Roan makes a splash in the U.K. top 5 with The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess, while Eminem’s Curtain Call: The Hits climbs two places to No. 7 following the release of his new album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).
Fleetwood Mac’s 50 Years – Don’t Stop rises four places to No. 8, coinciding with Stevie Nicks’ headline performance at London’s BST Hyde Park. The music scene continues to buzz with excitement as Zach Bryan’s The Great American Bar Scene debuts at No. 16, marking a career-best for the Oklahoma country star. Additionally, The Killers’ Rebel Diamonds makes a significant jump of 14 spots to No. 32 as they kick off their six-night residency at London’s The O2.
