Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie says he is still devastated after wife’s passing.
Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., shared a poignant tribute to his late wife, Rhonda, on social media, marking his return after two weeks of silence following her passing. Massie expressed his ongoing devastation at the loss of his beloved wife but found solace in the love and support of his four children and numerous friends and family members who attended Rhonda’s services and sent heartfelt tributes in her memory.
Reflecting on the outpouring of support he and his family received, Massie expressed gratitude for the prayers and gestures that honored Rhonda. He shared that while the grieving process has been difficult, filled with tears and laughter as they reminisced about happy memories, he acknowledged that while he can navigate through the pain, he will never truly get over losing her.
Remembering Rhonda as “the smartest kindest woman I ever knew,” Massie announced her passing on June 28, after 35 years of marriage. Despite the loss, the congressman has faced unwarranted conspiracy theories surrounding Rhonda’s death, which he dismissed with clarifications about the circumstances and additional details, including the fact that she did not receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
As a vocal and independent-minded Republican lawmaker, Massie has often defied House leadership, and his recent tribulations have only deepened his commitment to his constituents in Kentucky’s Fourth Congressional District. He acknowledged missing votes during his period of mourning but pledged to return to work with the grace, patience, and wisdom that Rhonda embodied in her dedicated service.
Massie’s touching social media post drew an outpouring of condolences and support from his colleagues, with Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., and Oklahoma state Rep. Dusty Deevers among those expressing solidarity and prayers for him and his family during this difficult time.
Upon his return to serving the people of Kentucky, Massie will carry on with the same determination and integrity that have defined his tenure in Congress, honoring Rhonda’s memory through his continued dedication to public service.
