Leader of pro-Trump Project 2025 resigns as Democrats increase criticism.
Breaking News: The Director of Project 2025, Paul Dans, is leaving his role at the Heritage Foundation, as confirmed by Dr. Kevin Roberts, the president of the think tank. Dans, who previously served in the Trump administration, has led the transition initiative for the past two years. Dr. Roberts expressed his gratitude to Dans for his work on Project 2025.
When Project 2025 was launched in April 2022, Heritage set a timeline for completing policy drafting after the Republican and Democratic nominating conventions. The Republican National Convention has recently taken place in Milwaukee, and the Democratic National Convention is scheduled to commence in Chicago on August 19.
Dr. Roberts commended Dans’ leadership, stating that Project 2025 successfully achieved its goal of uniting over 110 conservative organizations to establish a cohesive conservative vision aimed at transferring power from the unelected administrative state back to the people. He emphasized that this tool was designed for any future administration to utilize.
In an email sent to Project 2025 staff, Dans mentioned that the initiative’s work is nearing completion, and he will be leaving Heritage next month. He highlighted the significant progress made by the project in creating a unified conservative vision by collaborating with leading organizations to dismantle the administrative state.
Despite Dans’ departure, a Project 2025 advisory board member indicated that the initiative’s work is likely to persist. The project intends to submit its work, including a database of potential hires and a list of policy recommendations for the first six months of a potential second term for former President Trump, to his campaign for review.
Former President Trump’s campaign reiterated its stance that Project 2025 was not affiliated with the campaign and should not be associated with him in any manner. However, Democrats and Vice President Kamala Harris have used the project’s extensive guide as part of their campaign against Trump, criticizing his policies on various issues.
Harris emphasized Trump’s intention to regress the country, citing Project 2025’s agenda as proof of his harmful policies. She warned voters about the implications of the 900-page blueprint created by Trump’s allies and urged them to reject his agenda at the ballot in November.
Trump distanced himself from Project 2025, denouncing some of its proposals as “abysmal.” Despite his disavowal, several experts who contributed to the project served in his administration, including Dans, who held positions in key government agencies. Several pro-Trump groups have withdrawn their support from the project recently.
Dans, who also served as Chairman of the National Capital Planning Commission, was appointed by Trump in January 2021 but was removed from the post by President Biden after assuming office. Other former Trump administration officials involved in Project 2025’s policy guide include Russ Vought, Chris Miller, and Ben Carson.
