Many Democrats want Biden to drop out of the race, poll shows

A recent poll conducted by USA TODAY/Suffolk University has shed light on the growing doubts among President Biden’s core supporters regarding his continuation in the 2024 presidential race. The survey took place between Friday and Monday, with 1,000 respondents from all U.S. states participating.

Surprisingly, the poll revealed that more than four in ten Democrats believe that the Democratic Party should intervene and replace Biden as the nominee. Overall, 54% of the voters surveyed expressed their support for Biden dropping out of the race.

In contrast, Trump’s base seemed more resilient, with only 14% of Republicans suggesting that the Republican Party should replace Trump as their nominee, even in light of his recent conviction. According to a press release from Suffolk University, Trump’s supporters appeared more steadfast following the debate.

One standout finding from the poll was the perception of the debate performance between Biden and Trump. Trump emerged as the clear winner, garnering a 50% to 11% margin over Biden. Specifically, among Biden supporters, only 28% believed that the sitting president won the debate.

The issue of mental acuity played a significant role in voters’ assessment of each candidate’s performance. Critics of Biden’s performance, who is 81, used words like ‘confused’ and ‘incoherent,’ while Trump’s 78-year-old supporters praised their candidate as ‘coherent/articulate’ and ‘cognizant/present.’

The fallout from Biden’s lackluster debate showing has reverberated within the Democratic Party, with one of his longtime Senate colleagues, Former Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin, publicly calling for a new nominee. Harkin labeled Thursday’s debate as “a disaster from which Biden cannot recover,” emphasizing the need for Biden to step aside.

As pressure mounts on President Biden, the Democratic Party is facing a critical juncture in deciding the next steps for the 2024 elections. Stay tuned for further updates as the political landscape continues to evolve.

President Biden’s future in the 2024 presidential race remains uncertain, with calls for his replacement growing louder within his own party.
