Michigan governor tells Biden campaign they cannot win state: report

During a recent call between Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Biden campaign Chair Jennifer O’Malley Dillon, Whitmer reportedly expressed her concerns about the state of Michigan being no longer winnable for Biden following his disastrous debate performance. Sources familiar with the call disclosed to Politico that Whitmer was frustrated that her name was being discussed as a potential replacement for Biden post-debate.

Despite disavowing any efforts to push Biden out of the race, Whitmer’s private sentiments reflect a growing trend among prominent Democrats who publicly support Biden while privately raising doubts about his candidacy. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former House Majority Whip James Clyburn, for example, reiterated their unwavering support for Biden in separate television appearances over the weekend.

Pelosi attributed Biden’s debate struggles to the barrage of “lies” from former President Trump, requiring Biden to spend a significant portion of his time countering falsehoods on stage.

Clyburn downplayed Biden’s debate performance, attributing it to “preparation overload” and expressing confidence in Biden’s ability to defeat Trump in the upcoming election.

As reports of Democrats’ wavering confidence in Biden continue to surface, it is crucial to note the public statements of support from party leaders like Pelosi and Clyburn. However, the behind-the-scenes concerns underscore the volatile nature of the current political landscape and the challenges facing the Biden campaign as they navigate the fallout from his debate performance.
