Erickson, a Tigard businessman who previously faced off against Salinas in 2022, emphasized his status as a political outsider and outlined his top priorities for Congress as “securing the southern border, fighting inflation, and supporting law enforcement.” His triumph in the primary came after defeating competitors such as Dundee Mayor David Russ, 2022 Republican gubernatorial candidate David Burch, and retired contractor Conrad Herold. Russ, who also lost to Erickson in the state’s 2022 primary, was unable to secure the nomination this time around.

The Cook Political Report has designated the November race in the 6th Congressional District as “lean Democrat,” indicating a competitive and closely watched contest.
In a rematch of the 2022 election, Erickson will once again face off against Democratic Rep. Andrea Salinas, who secured victory against primary challenger Cody Reynolds. Salinas clinched the win in 2022 by a margin of less than three points, setting the stage for a closely contested battle between the two candidates.
