New House GOP bill could send college protestors to Gaza.

Welcome to the Boston Post News network, where we bring you the latest updates on current events. Today, we have an exclusive report on a new House Republican bill that is making headlines.

The bill, introduced by Rep. Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., aims to address the issue of illegal activity on college campuses by sending those charged and convicted to Gaza for a minimum of six months. This initiative comes in response to the ongoing anti-Israel demonstrations that have been taking place on college campuses all across the country.

Many of these protests have turned violent, leading to clashes between police and activists, as well as multiple arrests. While the bill does not explicitly mention Israel or anti-Israel groups, it is specifically targeting unlawful activities on college campuses following the invasion by Hamas militants in October 2023, which resulted in over 1,000 casualties.

Under this new bill, individuals convicted of illegal activities on college campuses since October 7th, 2023, will be required to serve a minimum of six months of community service in Gaza. This decision comes in the midst of Israel’s efforts to combat Hamas and rescue hostages taken by terrorists in October.

Rep. Ogles emphasized the importance of holding accountable those who engage in unlawful activities on American university campuses. He stated, “That’s why I introduced legislation to send any person convicted of unlawful activity on the campus of an American university since October 7th, 2023, to Gaza to complete a minimum of six months of community service.”

Rep. Randy Weber, R-Texas, expressed his support for the bill, stating, “If you support a terrorist organization, and you participate in unlawful activity on campuses, you should get a taste of your own medicine. I am going to bet that these pro-Hamas supporters wouldn’t last a day, but let’s give them the opportunity.”

While the bill may face challenges given the narrow Republican majority in the House, it underscores the heightened tensions surrounding Israel’s conflict with Hamas. The bipartisan criticism towards the college protests has sparked debates across party lines, with progressives continuing to show strong support for students and activists on campus.

In the midst of these discussions, Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., faced backlash for comments referring to some Jewish students as “pro-genocide,” leading to a censure resolution filed by Rep. Don Bacon, R-Neb. Likewise, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., faced censure for her remarks about Israel following the events of October 7.
