New Joe Biden Ad Criticizes Donald Trump for Being a Criminal
President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign is ramping up its efforts in targeting his rival, presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump. With a new $50 million ad campaign, the focus is on Trump’s historic criminal conviction in New York.
The 30-second ad, titled “Character Matters,” highlights images of Trump in a Manhattan courtroom where he was found guilty last month of falsifying business records to conceal payments to an adult film star.
The narrator in the ad mentions, “He’s been convicted of 34 felonies, found liable for sexual assault, and he committed financial fraud. This election is between a convicted criminal who’s only out for himself and a president who’s fighting for your family.”
Biden’s campaign revealed that the ad is aimed at voters in all battleground states throughout the month of June. It draws a sharp contrast between Trump’s legal troubles and Biden’s legislative achievements, such as efforts to lower health care costs and combat the effects of inflation.
“Character matters, and the President of the United States should be someone who understands that the highest office in the land is about you and your family ― not a vehicle to enrich yourself,” stated Biden campaign spokesperson Michael Tyler. “That is the ethos Joe Biden puts into the job every day: to fight for safer communities, for the middle class, and to ensure that corporations are paying their fair share. It’s a stark contrast, and it’s one that matters deeply to the American people.”
The new ad rollout by Biden’s campaign will also include significant investments in reaching Black, Latino, and Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander voters ― key components of the Democratic voting bloc. These investments represent the campaign’s largest directed ads at these communities to date. The messaging will highlight the protection of the Affordable Care Act, lowering consumer costs, and fulfilling promises made to Black communities.
Recent polls for the 2024 race have indicated Trump gaining ground with minority communities, as Biden’s approval rating remains below 40%, causing concern among some Democrats. Both the Biden and Trump campaigns have intensified their outreach to Black voters in the past few weeks, emphasizing the political influence the demographic will possess come November.
Trump made a recent appearance at a rally in the South Bronx in New York, an area with a significant number of Black and Hispanic voters. He also engaged Black voters at a church in Detroit over the weekend, where he voiced his stance against illegal immigration. However, visuals from the event exhibited a sparse attendance of Black individuals.
