Newsom strongly supports Biden in Michigan: ‘I trust him’

California Governor Gavin Newsom recently reaffirmed his unwavering support for the Biden-Harris 2024 presidential ticket, despite acknowledging that the previous presidential debate did not go as well as hoped for President Biden. During an Independence Day Democratic campaign event in Michigan, Newsom shared his candid thoughts with a crowd of supporters, admitting that the debate against former President Donald Trump did not yield the desired outcome.

Speaking at the Van Buren Dems BBQ for Biden-Harris in South Haven, Michigan, Newsom shared, “I had a lot of talking points in mind, you may have noticed if you saw me, I didn’t bring them with me. And that’s to make the obvious point — things did not go as well as the campaign had hoped, and obviously did not go as well as President Biden had hoped.”

Newsom firmly denied the claims of running a “shadow campaign” to replace Biden, emphasizing his commitment to supporting the current administration. He was among the 20 Democratic governors who recently met with President Biden at the White House, underscoring his dedication to the party’s leadership.

During the meeting with President Biden, Newsom expressed optimism, stating, “That was the Joe Biden that I remember from two weeks ago. That was the Joe Biden that I remember from two years ago. That’s the Joe Biden that I’m looking forward to re-electing as President of the United States.”

The meeting aimed to reassure party leaders and boost confidence in Biden’s candidacy, amid growing concerns following the recent debate. Democratic governors played a crucial role in showing their support, including prominent figures such as Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, and New York Gov. Kathy Hochul.

Newsom’s active involvement in supporting the administration was highlighted, with his upcoming trip to New Hampshire to headline a Democratic campaign event sparking further speculation about his potential role in the 2024 race. As a key surrogate for President Biden’s re-election campaign, Newsom’s efforts in campaigning for the president and other Democrats have not gone unnoticed.

Despite criticisms and doubts surrounding Biden’s performance, especially after the recent debate, Newsom remained staunch in his support. He affirmed, “I will never turn my back on President Biden. I don’t know a Democrat in my party that would do so. And especially after tonight, we have his back.”

Amid concerns about Biden’s mental acuity, heightened by a recent report questioning his abilities, Newsom’s steadfast backing of the president signals unity and solidarity within the Democratic Party. As the political landscape evolves, Newsom’s unwavering loyalty to President Biden and the party’s objectives underscores the importance of cohesive leadership and support.
