Nikki Haley tells supporters of Harris to stop using her name
Former U.N. ambassador and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is making a stand against a group using her name to support Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign. Haley is demanding that a political action committee (PAC) calling themselves “Haley Voters for Harris” immediately cease using her name without permission.
The PAC previously operated under the name “Haley Voters for Biden” but switched to supporting Harris after President Biden decided not to seek re-election and endorsed his vice president as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee. This move by the group prompted Haley to speak out against their unauthorized use of her name.
Haley herself ran for the White House last year, entering the race as the first major Republican candidate challenging former President Trump for the GOP nomination. Despite dropping out of the race in March, Haley continued to earn up to 20% of the vote in some Republican primaries. She was a vocal critic of Trump during their primary battle but eventually endorsed him at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
After Biden endorsed Harris and effectively secured the Democratic nomination, the group claiming to represent former Haley voters quickly changed their name to “Haley Voters for Harris.” They emphasized on social media that they do not have any official connection to Haley or her political committees and are simply appealing to a specific group of voters who may share their sentiments.
The group’s public announcement caught the attention of Haley’s team, prompting a response from them warning that any further use of Haley’s name without permission could lead to legal action. They stated that any insinuation of Haley supporting Harris is false and misleading, stressing that the PAC must cease raising funds or operating under a name containing Haley’s name.
Following Biden’s endorsement, Harris secured the needed support to become the Democratic nominee. Delegates to the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Chicago began rallying behind Harris, with a majority of nearly 4,000 delegates pledging their commitment to her candidacy.
Prior to Biden’s announcement and in her speech at the GOP convention, Haley criticized Harris for her handling of the border crisis. She highlighted the importance of strong leadership in addressing such issues, questioning Harris’s ability to manage the country as a whole if she can’t effectively tackle problems at the border.
In conclusion, Haley’s firm stance against the unauthorized use of her name sends a clear message that she does not support Harris’s presidential campaign and underscores the importance of respecting individuals’ rights to their image and likeness in political activities.
