North Carolina Governor: If Kamala Harris wins here, she will be the next President.

With the upcoming presidential election on the horizon, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper has made a bold statement regarding Vice President Kamala Harris. During an interview on “Face the Nation,” Cooper declared that if Harris manages to secure a victory in his state, then she is poised to become the next President of the United States.

The battleground state of North Carolina, with its 16 electoral votes, has been a coveted prize for Democrats, having last been won by a Democrat in 2008 by former President Barack Obama. The state’s history of Democratic governors, including Governor Cooper’s successful tenure, offers hope for the Democratic Party in its quest for victory.

Despite not running for reelection, Governor Cooper’s support has shifted towards Democratic Attorney General Josh Stein, who is facing off against the right-wing Republican Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson. With Stein leading by 10 points in a recent New York Times/Siena poll, Democrats are banking on Robinson’s controversial statements to sway voters in their favor.

In late August, the Cook Political Report transitioned North Carolina from “lean Republican” to a “toss-up.” Jessica Taylor of The Cook Political Report highlighted the impact of Vice President Harris on transforming the state into a battleground, with significant shifts in enthusiasm among Black and younger voters.

The latest polls indicate a close race between Harris and former President Donald Trump in North Carolina, with Harris holding a narrow lead. The shift in numbers is credited to Harris’ economic plan, which aims to lower costs for North Carolinians in areas like childcare and drug pricing.

Following the upcoming Harris-Trump debate, Vice President Harris plans to return to North Carolina for a campaign event to kick off a battleground tour. The support for Harris in the state is expected to grow as more North Carolinians hear her message and economic agenda.

Governor Cooper expressed optimism about Harris’ plan resonating with voters and potentially leading to success in North Carolina. When asked about the prospect of serving in a Harris administration, Cooper hinted at the possibility with a “we’ll see,” citing his longstanding relationship with Harris from their time as attorneys general.

As the political landscape in North Carolina continues to evolve, all eyes are on the upcoming election and the potential impact of Vice President Kamala Harris on the state’s electoral outcome.
