Over 200 former Republican staffers support Harris.

More than 200 Republicans who worked for former President George H.W. Bush, former President George W. Bush, Sen. John McCain, and Sen. Mitt Romney have made a bold endorsement – Vice President Kamala Harris. They believe that democracy is at stake and would be “irreparably jeopardized” by another Trump administration.

In a letter first reported by USA Today, these Republicans acknowledged their ideological differences with Vice President Harris and Governor Walz but emphasized that the alternative presented by another four years of former President Donald Trump’s “chaotic leadership” would have severe consequences for the nation, hurting everyday people and weakening sacred institutions.

The group previously released a similar letter in 2020 and is now calling on moderate Republicans and independents in battleground states who helped elect President Biden to stand up once again for the future of the country.

This announcement comes on the heels of speeches given by several Republicans at the recent Democratic National Convention, where they openly criticized Trump’s leadership and character. Stephanie Grisham, a former press secretary for Trump and a close aide to Melania Trump, expressed her support for Harris, citing Trump’s lack of empathy, morals, and truthfulness. According to Grisham, Trump even refers to his own supporters as “basement dwellers” in private.

Similarly, Olivia Troye, who served as an advisor to former Vice President Mike Pence, accused Trump of trying to sow doubt and division as a means to maintain his power. She urged voters to see beyond party lines, emphasizing that supporting democracy is paramount. Former Republican Representative Adam Kinzinger labeled Trump as “a weak man pretending to be strong” and emphasized Harris’s commitment to the rule of law, the Constitution, and democracy as reasons for his endorsement.

It is evident that these prominent Republicans are choosing to prioritize core democratic values over party affiliations in their decision to endorse Vice President Harris. Their voices serve as a reminder that in times of uncertainty, it is crucial to stand up for the principles that form the foundation of our nation.
