Pew Research: Trump is ahead of Biden on 3 important issues by a large margin.

Former President Donald Trump is maintaining his lead over President Biden, despite the latter’s poor debate performance last month, as per a recent survey conducted by the Pew Research Center.

The survey reveals that Trump currently enjoys an approval rating of 44%, while Biden trails behind at 40%. Trump leads Biden by double digits on three crucial issues, according to the poll.

Interestingly, about 68% of the respondents expressed dissatisfaction with their available choices for the upcoming presidential election.

The latest report by Pew comes in the wake of Biden’s perplexing and at times incoherent performance at the initial 2024 presidential debate.

Only a meager 24% of voters consider Biden to be “mentally sharp,” which marks a 6 point decline since January and a substantial 22% drop since October 2020. In stark contrast, approximately 58% of respondents described Trump as mentally sharp.

Trump’s edge over Biden is attributable to his strong stance on three critical issues that matter most to voters – immigration, the economy, and foreign policy.

When it comes to immigration policy, Trump leads Biden by a significant 17 points (52-35%). In terms of economic policy, Trump enjoys a 14 point lead over Biden (54-40%), and a 10 point lead on foreign policy (49-39%).

On the flip side, Biden has an 8 point advantage over Trump concerning bipartisanship (40-32%) and a 4 point edge on abortion issues (48-44%).

In a noteworthy development, third-party candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. secured one of his largest shares of the electorate in a major poll, grabbing 15% of respondents.

The Pew survey, comprising live interviews online or by phone, was conducted between July 1 and July 7. A total of 9,424 adults were contacted, out of which 7,729 were registered voters.

The respondents were strategically weighted to mirror the U.S. adult population in terms of gender, race, ethnicity, partisan affiliation, education, and other key factors. The survey carries a margin of error of around 1.3 percentage points.
