Photos show cash hidden in Menendez’s New Jersey home: Top moments from trial.

Breaking news from the U.S. v. Menendez trial has revealed shocking discoveries made by federal agents during a raid of New Jersey Senator Menendez’s home. Over $600,000 in cash and gold bars were found hidden throughout his cluttered residence, including a substantial amount of bills stuffed inside a Timberland boot.

This week, jurors were presented with a series of photographs showcasing the inside of Menendez’s Englewood Cliffs home, where he resides with his wife Nadine. Nadine, who is battling breast cancer, had her trial postponed until July.

The images revealed cash concealed in designer bags and shoes, gold bars, multiple cell phones, jewelry, a closet packed with clothing and miscellaneous items, and a Mercedes-Benz believed to be one of the bribes given to the couple.

The sheer amount of cash found presented a challenge for agents, leading Special Agent Aristotelis Kougemitros to call for reinforcements in the form of two cash-counting machines from the FBI’s Manhattan office. The tedious task of manually counting the $486,461 in bills highlighted the magnitude of the investigation.

Menendez stands accused of using his senatorial power to benefit the governments of Qatar and Egypt, as well as providing business favors to three New Jersey businessmen – Wael Hana, Fred Daibes, and Jose Uribe, who are also defendants in the case. Uribe, the only one to plead guilty, has agreed to cooperate with authorities and testify in court.

This marks the second time in the past decade that Menendez has faced allegations in a federal corruption case, shedding light on a history of questionable dealings.
