Pressure on White House doctor to make Biden take cognitive exam and share results with public.
Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, is calling on the White House doctor to persuade President Biden to undergo cognitive and neurological exams and to disclose the results following his subpar debate performance and escalating scrutiny. Graham emphasized the importance of addressing public concerns about Biden’s cognitive fitness by taking these exams, as recommended by prominent physicians and demanded by the majority of Americans.
In a letter addressed to Biden’s physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, Graham stated, “The deep public concern with President Biden’s mental acuity is well known.” Referencing Biden’s remark suggesting he would undergo an exam if advised by his doctors, Graham stressed the necessity of ensuring the president’s cognitive capabilities and urged O’Connor to request that Biden take the exams and make the results public in the interest of national security and the well-being of the American people.
Amidst growing dissatisfaction within the Democratic party regarding Biden’s leadership, there have been calls for him to step aside to allow another candidate to challenge former President Trump in the upcoming election. Despite this pressure, Biden remains adamant about staying in the race, much to the dismay of some members of his own party.
Furthermore, the mounting skepticism surrounding Biden has coincided with a decline in his popularity as reflected in recent polls. Down-ballot races have also become more fiercely contested and competitive, with Republicans gaining ground. The Cook Political Report recently adjusted its rating of a Senate race in Michigan from “Lean Democratic” to “Toss Up,” underscoring the potential impact of Biden’s candidacy on other Democratic candidates.
