Primary races will determine balance of power on Tuesday.
Welcome to the Boston Post News network, where we bring you the latest updates on the primary elections happening in Nevada, North Dakota, South Carolina, and Maine today.
Let’s dive into the action-packed contests taking place in these key states.
In South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District, Republican Rep. Nancy Mace is fighting for renomination in a competitive race. Mace, who won her seat in 2020, faces tough competition after breaking ranks with her party by voting to oust then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
Former President Trump has endorsed Mace in a surprising turn of events, despite their previous disputes. Mace is also supported by Governor Henry McMaster and current House Speaker Mike Johnson. Her main rival, Catherine Templeton, is backed by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Rep. Joe Wilson.
With around $9 million spent on ads for the primary, tensions are high as McCarthy-aligned outside groups target Mace. However, Mace has received roughly $3 million in outside spending on her behalf.
Meanwhile, in the 3rd and 4th Districts of South Carolina, several Republican candidates are vying for nominations in open races, adding more drama to the primary day.
Over in Nevada, former President Trump has endorsed Senate hopeful Sam Brown in a tightly contested GOP primary. Brown, a former Army captain and war veteran, aims to secure the nomination to face Democratic Senator Jacky Rosen in November.
Trump’s endorsement comes as Republicans look to reclaim the Senate majority, with the battle in Nevada playing a crucial role in their strategy.
Lastly, in North Dakota, Lt. Gov. Tammy Miller and Rep. Kelly Armstrong are engaged in a fierce competition to succeed outgoing Governor Doug Burgum. Burgum, a former Trump presidential candidate, is supporting Miller in the race.
In Maine, Marine Corps veteran Rep. Jared Golden is facing challenges from within his party as Republicans gear up to contest his seat in the upcoming election.
As primary day unfolds, stay tuned for more updates on the races and outcomes that will shape the political landscape in these pivotal states.
