The senator raised critical questions about the lack of “open-mindedness” displayed by Dr. Garry on this contentious issue.
Sen. Paul pointed out that while Dr. Garry argues that COVID-19 couldn’t have originated directly from bats and must have passed through an intermediate host, no such host has been identified despite testing thousands of animals. The senator suggested that the missing link could potentially be a laboratory animal, indicating the possibility of a virus being artificially adapted for human transmission through serial passage in a lab setting.
Referencing the work of Dr. Alina Chan, Sen. Paul highlighted how the virus appeared highly transmissible in humans right from the start, suggesting a level of pre-adaptation that aligns more with a laboratory origin theory rather than a natural zoonotic spillover event.
Not content with targeting Dr. Garry alone, Sen. Paul also took aim at Dr. Anthony Fauci and implicated others in what he described as a politically motivated stance against the lab leak theory.
