Report: New person is the top choice for Trump’s VP running mate

Former President Donald Trump is narrowing down his list of potential running mates, with Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas emerging as a top contender, according to sources close to Trump as reported by The New York Times.

Three unnamed sources revealed that Trump values Cotton’s reliability and clear communication of policy, positioning him favorably for the role.

Throughout the 2024 campaign, Trump has kept his vice-presidential options closely guarded, floating various names at different stages. Cotton, too, has refrained from confirming or denying any speculation about his chances in a hypothetical second Trump administration.

During a recent statement, Cotton emphasized the importance of focusing on winning the upcoming election in November to secure another term for President Trump and elect a Republican Congress to address the damage caused by President Biden’s administration.

Several former opponents and rival candidates of Trump have risen as prominent contenders for the vice-presidential slot, including Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, and former North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum. The name of Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio has also circulated in discussions.

However, the campaign has affirmed that former primary rival Nikki Haley, the ex-governor of South Carolina and former UN ambassador, is not being considered for the role.

Trump is expected to reveal his final choice at the Republican National Convention in July, adding an element of suspense to the selection process.
