Republican from red state claims rival Democrat’s Senate campaign is being funded by supporters of anti-Israel radicals
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, accused his Senate opponent, Democratic candidate Rep. Colin Allred of Texas, of being financially backed by the same powerful families who are supporting the anti-Israel and antisemitic demonstrations at universities across the country.
Between April 18 and May 3, police either arrested or detained more than 2,200 people on at least 49 college campuses during protests in 26 different states.
The upcoming Senate race between Sen. Ted Cruz and Colin Allred has sparked controversy with Cruz alleging that Allred is funded by donors who support anti-Israel and antisemitic movements at universities.
“They’re being funded by George Soros and the Rockefeller brothers and Bill and Melinda Gates and the Pritzkers,” Cruz claimed.
Cruz continued, stating, “Those folks are not just Joe Biden’s top donors. They’re among Colin Allred’s top donors.”
“Colin Allred has accepted $80,000 from those donors that are funding the anti-Israel, antisemitic protests on college campuses,” the Texas senator said.
George Soros’ organization clarified that they do not have direct control over the smaller groups they support.
In total, the four families, including George Soros, the Pritzkers, the Gates, and the Rockefellers, have contributed nearly $80,000 to Colin Allred’s campaigns, as per Cruz’s claims.
The Open Society, founded by George Soros and chaired by his son Alexander Soros, stated that they fund various civil society groups in the U.S. advocating for social justice.
Nicholas and Susan Pritzker’s Libra Foundation also support social justice organizations involved in pro-Palestinian demonstrations, as reported by Politico.
The Rockefeller Brothers Fund has granted substantial funds to Jewish Voice for Peace, a group known for anti-Israel demonstrations.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has funded the Tides Foundation and Tides Center, organizations associated with anti-Israel activism.
“Colin has a choice. Will he stand with the people of Israel and return the money, or will he keep the funding?” questioned Cruz.
“Colin Allred has the opportunity to make a clear choice on which side he stands as the election approaches,” he added.
Controversy surrounding the funding sources of political candidates underscores the divisive nature of modern politics, where support from specific donors can raise questions about a candidate’s values and positions.
Public scrutiny and demands for transparency in campaign financing are essential as voters seek to understand the allegiances and motivations of those representing them at the highest levels.
As the election date draws near, both Ted Cruz and Colin Allred face the challenge of addressing these accusations and clarifying their positions on issues that resonate deeply with constituents and the broader public. The outcome of this political contest could have far-reaching implications for the future direction of Texas and the nation as a whole.
