Republicans choose MAGA candidate, Democrats criticize as ‘extreme’

The Republican Party has officially embraced the “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) movement with their choice of candidates for the upcoming 2024 election, a move that Democrats are quick to label as extremist.

After much anticipation, former President Donald Trump announced his running mate for the 2024 Republican ticket to be Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, a strong supporter of the former president and a key figure in the MAGA faction of the GOP.

Democrats wasted no time in criticizing Trump’s decision, painting the MAGA agenda as extreme and casting the GOP duo in a negative light after the announcement was made public.

Who is JD Vance, Trump’s running mate?

Donald Trump officially named J.D. Vance as his running mate for the 2024 election, sealing their partnership on Monday.

The Biden-Harris headquarters, the official campaign account for the Democratic Party in 2024, harshly criticized the selection, calling Vance a “far-right MAGA extremist” who denies the results of the 2020 election, supports a nationwide ban on abortion, and opposes access to in-vitro fertilization (IVF).

President Joe Biden himself took to social media to condemn the choice, stating, “Here’s the deal about J.D. Vance. He talks a big game about working people. But now, he and Trump want to raise taxes on middle-class families while pushing more tax cuts for the rich.”

Former Representative Tim Ryan, whom Vance defeated for the Ohio Senate seat in 2022, echoed the sentiment, branding the vice-presidential pick as “even more extreme than Trump.”

In a scathing post, Ryan declared, “At best, JD Vance is a phony and a fraud. At worst, he holds extremely deranged views towards women. His political agenda is even more extreme than Trump’s, and his history of dishonesty and opportunism means he cannot be trusted.”

Trump’s selection of JD Vance praised by GOP

Despite the barrage of criticism from Democrats, the GOP has thrown its full support behind Trump and Vance, touting the 2024 ticket and its commitment to implementing “America first” policies.

President Biden, for his part, has made it clear that he has no intention of stepping aside, setting the stage for what promises to be a contentious and high-stakes battle for the presidency in 2024.
