Romney won’t support Trump due to character reasons

The Utah senator emphasized his stance on personal character when it comes to political support, citing a federal jury’s ruling in a case involving Trump and allegations of sexual assault.
Romney expressed his reservations about supporting someone with such allegations against them. “With President Trump, it’s a matter of personal character. I draw a line and say when someone has been actually found to have been sexually assaulted, that’s something I just won’t cross over in the person I wouldn’t want to have as president of the United States,” Romney said.
The case that Romney referred to involves a federal jury in New York City ruling that Trump was not liable for the rape of E. Jean Carroll but was liable for sexual abuse and defamation. Carroll had accused Trump of raping her at a department store in Manhattan in 1996 and sought $12 million in damages.
In response to Carroll’s allegations, Trump denied any wrongdoing, leading Carroll to file a defamation lawsuit against him. The jury found that Trump’s statements caused harm to Carroll’s reputation and awarded her a total of $83.3 million, including compensatory and punitive damages.
Despite these legal challenges, Trump remains the frontrunner for the GOP nomination in the 2024 presidential election. His denial of the allegations and ongoing legal battles have not deterred his supporters, who continue to back his candidacy.
