Ryan Reynolds says his favorite Taylor Swift song is ‘Betty’.
The highly anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine movie is finally hitting theaters on July 26, bringing together Ryan Reynolds’ foul-mouthed face-puncher and Hugh Jackman’s razor-clawed X-Man in an epic superhero team-up. But before we witness them in action, the trio sat down for an interview to discuss a crucial spoiler: Ryan Reynolds’ favorite Taylor Swift song.
During a video interview for Variety, director Shawn Levy posed the question to Reynolds and Jackman, and initially, both men seemed unsure. Reynolds chuckled, “I mean, you know… I mean, c’mon,” with a mischievous smile on his face.
Jackman, however, appeared more confident as he quickly jotted down his answer on a whiteboard, claiming that Reynolds had sung the song to him on the last day of shooting. The guesses from Jackman and Levy were hilariously off the mark, with Jackman suggesting “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” and Levy referring to the song that starts with “gorgeous,” from Swift’s album “Reputation,” featuring Reynolds and Blake Lively’s daughter James.
Amidst the laughter, Reynolds finally revealed the correct answer, dismissing the previous guesses with a simple, “wow… no.”
Jackman was surprised by Reynolds’ response, insisting that Reynolds had sung the song to him angrily, while Reynolds clarified that he had actually just hummed it. The correct answer turned out to be the ballad “Betty” from Swift’s “Folklore” album, with Reynolds humorously explaining his current era as being in the “Folklore and Evermore era.” The song is named after Reynolds and Lively’s daughter Betty, featuring mentions of their other daughters, James and Inez.
Reynolds and Lively have a long-standing friendship with Swift, leading to speculations about a possible cameo by Swift in the movie. Reynolds had previously recreated the “Evermore” album cover, sparking rumors of Swift’s involvement. However, recent reports have confirmed that Swift will not be appearing in the film.
During a concert in Madrid, Swift mentioned the couple’s three daughters, with the fourth child’s name still undisclosed. Reynolds jokingly stated earlier this year that they are awaiting Swift to reveal the name. Swift also hinted at her affinity for the names James, Inez, and Betty, characters from her “Folklore” album.
While the possibility of a Taylor Swift cameo in the Deadpool & Wolverine movie seems unlikely, the playful banter between the stars and director serve to further fuel excitement for the upcoming release.
