States Trump hopes to win in November.
Former President Donald Trump is making his way back to the Jersey Shore for an upcoming rally in Wildwood, New Jersey. The event is expected to draw a large crowd in this heavily Republican area, which is located in Cape May County, a traditionally blue state.
This isn’t the first time Trump has visited Wildwood – he held a rally there in January of 2020. Despite his previous efforts, Trump lost the state of New Jersey to President Biden by 16 points in the 2020 election.
Now, as Trump gears up for another rally in Wildwood, he’s also spending time in New York City, where he’s involved in a court case, marking the first instance of a former or current president standing trial in a criminal matter.
Trump expressed his optimism about winning New Jersey during a recent radio interview, emphasizing his love for the state and his determination to secure a victory. However, Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherrill and Biden campaign communications director Michael Tyler have both made statements suggesting that New Jersey may not be as welcoming to Trump as he hopes.
While New Jersey may not be Trump’s top priority, his campaign is shining a spotlight on other blue states where he sees potential for success, such as Minnesota and Virginia, both of which Biden won comfortably in 2020.
At a recent Republican Committee retreat in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump’s campaign advisors highlighted surveys indicating that Minnesota and Virginia are “clearly in play.” The former president is scheduled to return to Minnesota to headline a state GOP fundraising dinner.
While Trump’s team sees opportunities for victory in these states, Biden’s campaign remains confident in its ability to maintain a strong coalition in Minnesota and Virginia, citing their success in past elections and the current groundwork being laid by the campaign.
As the campaigns gear up for the 2024 election, Trump aims to flip Minnesota for the second time, echoing his efforts in the 2020 election. Meanwhile, Biden’s campaign is also eyeing swing states like North Carolina and Florida, where they believe they can build on their previous success.
While both campaigns are strategizing for the upcoming election, only time will tell which candidate will emerge victorious in this high-stakes political battle.
