Taylor Swift and Beyonce are now tied as the top winners in MTV VMA history.

The 2024 VMAs brought together music’s biggest stars for a night filled with excitement and celebration at the UBS Arena in New York. Taylor Swift stole the show by winning an incredible seven awards, bringing her total career Moonpersons to an impressive 30. This remarkable feat now ties her with Beyoncé as the top winner in the history of the VMAs. Beyoncé, a force in her own right, has clinched 26 awards on her own, two as part of The Carters, and two as part of Destiny’s Child.

One of the biggest highlights of the night was Swift’s collaboration with Post Malone on the hit song “Fortnight,” which earned them a total of five awards, securing Swift’s spot at the top of the night’s award count.

“Fortnight” took home the coveted prize for Video of the Year, marking the third consecutive year and the fifth overall that Taylor Swift has won in this category. Her previous victories include “Bad Blood” (2015), “You Need to Calm Down” (2019), “All Too Well: The Short Film” (2022), and “Anti-Hero” (2023). This impressive win not only extends Swift’s record for the most wins in the category but also makes her the first person to claim victory for three consecutive years.

Aside from her success with “Fortnight,” Taylor Swift also shone in the category of Best Direction, with her direction of the “Fortnight” video earning her yet another win. Swift has now clinched this award four times in the last five years for videos she personally directed, with wins for “The Man,” “All Too Well: The Short Film,” and “Anti-Hero.”

Continuing her winning streak, Taylor Swift was crowned Artist of the Year for the second consecutive year, becoming the first artist to claim victory twice in this category since its inception in 2017.

“Fortnight” also secured the win for Best Collaboration, marking Swift’s third victory in this category, following previous wins for “Bad Blood” featuring Kendrick Lamar, and “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” with Zayn. Additionally, she scored her third win for Best Pop, putting her in a tie with Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake for the most wins in this category.

While Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” took home the award for Song of the Year, “Fortnight” emerged victorious in the Song of Summer category, beating out Carpenter’s follow-up hit, “Please Please Please.”

Eminem, Megan Thee Stallion, and Katy Perry also had their shining moments at the VMAs, with each artist securing two awards. Eminem’s career total of VMAs now stands at an impressive 15, making him the male artist with the most wins in the show’s history, surpassing Peter Gabriel.

Eminem’s wins for Best Hip-Hop and Best Visual Effects for “Houdini” showcased his musical prowess and creativity. Megan Thee Stallion, who served as the host of this year’s show, claimed victory in the Best Trending Video category for “Mamushi” featuring Yuki Chiba, and Best Art Direction for “BOA.”

Katy Perry’s memorable night included receiving the Video Vanguard Award and an unexpected win for VMAs Most Iconic Performance for her 2013 rendition of “Roar,” beating out iconic VMA moments from artists like Madonna and Eminem.

Women continued to dominate in key categories, with a streak of female artists winning accolades year after year. Chappell Roan secured the title of Best New Artist, continuing the trend of female artists claiming victory for the seventh consecutive year.

Tyla’s “Water” took home the award for Best Afrobeats in the category’s second year, following the success of last year’s winner, “Calm Down” by Rema and Selena Gomez.

In a surprising turn of events, Lenny Kravitz secured his first win in the Best Rock category with “Human,” surpassing other notable bands like Bon Jovi, Coldplay, and U2.

Despite the night’s festivities, artists like Charli XCX, GloRilla, Olivia Rodrigo, and Teddy Swims unfortunately did not secure any wins, despite receiving multiple nominations.
