Taylor Swift fans celebrated after her tour was cancelled.

The Spirit of Swifties: Vienna Celebrates Taylor Swift’s Music

Despite the cancellation of Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour shows in Vienna scheduled for Aug. 8, 9, and 10, the spirit of Swifties in Vienna remains unwavering. The city has transformed into a celebration of Taylor’s music and community.

The cancellation decision came after Austrian authorities apprehended two suspects on Aug. 7 who were allegedly planning an attack on the concerts. The suspects, who had radicalized online, intended to carry out the attack at the Ernst Happel Stadium, where the shows were supposed to take place.

The concerts were canceled in cooperation with Swift’s management and local authorities, with the safety of the expected 65,000 concertgoers each night being the top priority.

Following the cancellations, fans in Vienna took to the streets on Aug. 8 to make the most of their time in the city and to connect with fellow fans.

In a heartwarming gesture, fans on Corneliusgasse, a street in Vienna sharing a name with Swift’s song “Cornelia Street,” exchanged handmade friendship bracelets and hung them from trees, strengthening the bonds formed through Swift’s music.

24 hours after we found out our @taylorswift13 concert was canceled because of an ISIS terrorist plot, Swifties have gathered at “Cornelia street” to sing, trade friendship bracelets, and just feel joy. In a touching moment captured on video and shared on social media, two Taylor Swift fans got engaged in Vienna, creating their very own “Love Story” amidst cheers and tears from the crowd, adding a special touch of joy to an otherwise challenging day.

Fans on social media reported that local businesses and cultural institutions extended their support to the disappointed fans. Museums offered free entry to ticket holders, and cafes and restaurants provided complimentary food and drinks.

Despite fear and uncertainty, Swifties have turned a canceled concert into a city-wide celebration of resilience, music, and friendship, showcasing the true essence of the spirit of Swift’s Eras Tour.
