Taylor Swift is ahead of Pet Shop Boys.

Taylor Swift is dominating the charts in the U.K. as she looks set to maintain her No. 1 position for a second week with her album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ released through EMI.

Last week, Swift easily clinched the top spot for the 12th time in the U.K. However, this week, she faces some competition from the new album ‘Nonetheless’ by the legendary Pet Shop Boys under Parlophone.

According to midweek sales and streaming data collected by the Official Charts Company, ‘Nonetheless’ is currently at No. 2, trailing Swift’s double-album by about 1,000 chart units.

‘Nonetheless’ marks the 15th studio album by the British electronic-pop duo, and it is anticipated to secure their 19th top 10 placement in the U.K. If it maintains its position, ‘Nonetheless’ could become Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe’s highest-charting collaborative studio album since ‘Very’ topped the chart in 1993.

Swift’s ‘Tortured Poets’ achieved remarkable success last Friday, with the biggest opening week in seven years, marking her best debut in the U.K. to date and the fastest-selling album of 2024 thus far. In addition, she now ties with Madonna as the female solo artists with the most No. 1 albums in the U.K. and matches Bruce Springsteen on the all-time leaderboard.

Meanwhile, the Zutons are making a strong entry with ‘The Big Decider’ under Icepop, expected to claim the No. 3 spot on the Official Chart Update. This album could potentially become the British band’s first top 5 album in 18 years.

Other contenders aiming for top 10 debuts include St. Vincent with her self-produced seventh album ‘All Born Screaming’ (No. 4 via Total Pleasure), Jess Glynne’s third album ‘JESS’ (No. 5 via EMI), Luke Hemmings of 5 Seconds of Summer with his new EP ‘Boy’ (No. 6 via RCA), and the French electronic duo Justice with their fourth album ‘Hyperdrama’ (No. 10 via Because Music).

Stay tuned for the unveiling of the Official U.K. Albums Chart on Friday, May 3 to see how these albums fare in the rankings.
