Taylor Swift supports The Darkness’ song ‘I Believe in a Thing Called Love’

Taylor Swift recently captured the world’s attention with her public endorsement of Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris on Tuesday night, making headlines and causing a stir on social media. This announcement, following Harris’ debate with former President Donald Trump, is expected to have a significant impact due to Swift’s enormous influence in today’s pop culture landscape. However, Harris is not the only one benefitting from what is commonly known as the “Taylor Swift Bump” this week.

Over the weekend, Swift and her celebrity partner, Travis Kelce, were spotted at the U.S. Open men’s tennis finals in New York. The duo even engaged in a lively sing-along to the popular 2003 hit “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” by The Darkness, complete with air-guitaring and dramatic performances of the lyrics by Swift. This impromptu rock-out session immediately sparked a surge in streams of the song, with on-demand audio streams skyrocketing to 105,000 on the Monday following the U.S. Open, an 80% increase from the previous week.

The admiration appears to be mutual between Swift and The Darkness, as lead singer Justin Hawkins revealed that he and his family attended Swift’s Eras Tour stop in Zurich earlier this year. Swift, in turn, left Hawkins a handwritten note in the VIP tent expressing her fandom for the band and describing “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” as one of the greatest songs of all time. The exchange of appreciation between the two artists illustrates the power and influence of music in bridging different genres and generations.
