Taylor Swift to star in movie inspired by ‘Silence of the Lambs’
Imagine a scenario where the chilling atmosphere of “The Silence of the Lambs” unfolds within the electrifying energy of a Taylor Swift concert. This intriguing concept is at the core of M. Night Shyamalan’s latest film, Trap, as revealed in a recent interview with Empire magazine.
The plot of Trap revolves around a father, portrayed by Josh Harnett, who takes his teenage daughter, played by Ariel Donoghue, to a concert headlined by Lady Raven, a pop star crafted by Shyamalan’s own daughter, Saleka Shyamalan. However, the night takes a terrifying turn as they become entangled in a police operation to apprehend a notorious serial killer known as “The Butcher,” as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
In a recent trailer showcasing the film, a stadium employee ominously whispers, “This whole concert is a trap.”
Shyamalan revealed, “I directed an entire concert! And it wasn’t just a thing in the background. It’s equally important. There is no pretend concert going on.” The film creates a unique cinematic experience by immersing the audience in a real concert setting, exclusive to the movie theater.
The inspiration behind Trap stemmed partially from Shyamalan’s daughter’s musical aspirations and drew influence from the real-life events of the 1985 “Operation Flagship.” This sting operation orchestrated by U.S. Marshals and the DC Metropolitan Police Department led to the arrest of numerous fugitives enticed by free NFL tickets and a chance to win a trip to the Super Bowl, with police officers disguised as cheerleaders and mascots. Shyamalan remarked, “The cops were literally cheerleaders and mascots. These guys were dancing as they came in. And they were all caught. It was so twisted and funny.”
Warner Bros. Pictures will release Trap in theaters on Aug. 9, promising audiences a gripping and immersive cinematic experience. Be sure to watch Warner Bros.’ new trailer for Trap and catch a glimpse of Saleka Shyamalan’s performance as Lady Raven, showcasing her talent through 14 original songs penned for the film.
In a profile published by The New York Times, Saleka Shyamalan shared her passion for music and her father’s support in her musical journey. She stated, “I think once he [M. Night Shyamalan] saw that I had passion for it in the same way that he had a passion for film, he understood it and was like, all right, I’m with you, let’s make this happen.”
