Taylor Swift’s ex, Joe Alwyn, finishes filming movie “Tortured Man Club”.

Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department has been a topic of speculation among fans for its potential inspiration from ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn’s former group chat with actors Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal, known as “The Tortured Man Club.” While the truth behind this remains unclear, Scott recently shed some light on their brief text exchange, revealing that it didn’t last long.

In an interview with Variety, Scott recalled the chat consisting of only three texts before fizzling out. He humorously likened it to the typical group chats that tend to collapse after a short-lived excitement.

The reason behind the melancholic name of their conversation, according to Scott, stemmed from the trio gearing up to portray emotionally complex characters. Alwyn had been cast as Nick Conway in Hulu’s adaptation of Sally Rooney’s ‘Conversations With Friends,’ while Mescal starred as Connell Waldron in ‘Normal People,’ another Rooney-inspired series.

Reflecting on their shared connection through these challenging roles, Scott emphasized that the chat was more about the characters they were about to play rather than their own personas.

Scott’s interview with Variety comes after a previous discussion with Mescal for the publication’s “Actors on Actors” video series. During this conversation, the actors touched upon their group chat with Alwyn, leading fans to draw possible connections when Swift unveiled her album title at the Grammys.

Describing Swift as an extraordinary force of nature, Scott expressed admiration for her latest album and singled out “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” as his favorite track. He praised the album for its brilliance and artistic depth.
