Taylor Swift’s new album breaks records and reaches No. 1 in the U.K.

Taylor Swift’s unstoppable rise to the number one spot in the U.K. charts has been nothing short of impressive. Her latest album, “Tortured Poets”, released through EMI, has broken records and solidified her position as a chart-topping powerhouse.

At the halfway mark, “Tortured Poets” claimed the top spot on the Official Chart, marking Swift’s 12th number one album in the U.K. This achievement is a testament to her enduring popularity and musical prowess.

The album’s debut numbers are truly remarkable, with 270,000 units sold in its first chart week. This surpasses Swift’s previous best of 204,000 units, set by “Midnights” in 2022, making it the biggest opening week for any album in seven years.

In fact, the last album to achieve similar first-week numbers was Ed Sheeran’s “÷ (Divide)” in 2017, with 670,000 units sold. It even outperformed Adele’s “30”, which amassed 261,000 units in its opening week.

With a total of 12 number one albums in the U.K., Taylor Swift now stands alongside legendary artists like Madonna and Bruce Springsteen. Only a few acts, including The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, have more chart-topping albums than Swift.

“Tortured Poets” joins a prestigious list of Swift’s consecutive number one albums, starting from “Red” in 2012 to “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” in 2023. Her rapid ascent to 12 number one albums in just over a decade sets a new milestone in music history.

Furthermore, Swift holds the record for the most number one albums by any artist in the 21st century, all achieved consecutively. This feat cements her status as a dominant force in the music industry.

While Swift’s dominance on the charts is undeniable, other artists have also made waves with their latest releases. Pearl Jam’s “Dark Matter” achieved their best U.K. chart performance in 11 years, debuting at number two. Additionally, British reggae group UB40 entered the charts at number five with their 21st studio album, “UB45”.
