Trump and Biden campaigns advertise on TV and online before and during debate
The highly anticipated CNN Presidential Debate between President Biden and former President Trump will mark their first face-to-face showdown in the 2024 election rematch. As the two candidates take the stage in Atlanta, their campaigns are waging a fierce battle online and on TV in the ad wars on Thursday.
The Biden campaign kicked off the day with a seven-figure “media blitz,” which includes ads on various prominent websites such as Buzzfeed, USA Today, CNN, El Tiempo Latino, Telemundo, theGrio, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. These ads highlight what the campaign views as “the dangers of electing Trump to a second term.” Additionally, full-page ads were taken out in the hard-copy editions of USA Today.
The campaign’s senior spokesperson, Kevin Munoz, emphasized the stark contrast in visions between President Biden, who is portrayed as fighting for the American people, and Donald Trump, whose campaign is depicted as self-serving. Munoz stated, “Today’s show of force in Atlanta and across the battlegrounds emphasizes the two contrasting visions the American people will see on the debate stage tonight.”
Leading up to the debate, the Biden campaign has been dominant in the TV ad wars, launching new ads daily this week. AdImpact reported that the campaign reserved $2 million in ad placements for Thursday alone.
On the other side, the Trump campaign announced the launch of two ads for debate day, their first spots since the end of the GOP primaries. One ad titled “Promises” criticizes Biden’s record, alleging that it has negatively impacted the economy and allowed over 11 million unvetted immigrants into the country. The second ad, “Who is Laughing Now,” questions Biden’s physical abilities and implies that Vice President Kamala Harris might take over if he cannot fulfill his duties.
While the Trump campaign did not disclose the exact amount allocated for the ad buy, AdImpact estimated it at $100,000. This pales in comparison to the significant investment made by the Biden campaign in the ad wars.
With both campaigns ramping up their ad efforts in the final stretch before the debate, the stage is set for a crucial face-off that could significantly impact the 2024 election narrative. As the candidates prepare to tackle pressing issues and confront each other’s policies, the American people eagerly await the outcome of this high-stakes event.
