Trump and Biden supporters disagree on ‘culture war’ and ‘woke’ topics: What they think

In a recent survey conducted by the Pew Research Center, supporters of President Biden and former President Trump are shown to be sharply divided over various “culture war” or “woke” issues such as gender identity, the perceived toughness of the American criminal justice system, and illegal immigration.

The polling, which took place between April 8-14 and involved 8,709 U.S. adults, comes as both candidates are preparing for what is expected to be a closely contested election in November.

The Pew findings illustrate that 90% of Trump supporters believe that gender is determined by the sex assigned at birth, while only 39% of Biden supporters agree with this viewpoint. Nearly 60% of Biden supporters believe that gender can differ from the sex assigned at birth, compared to just 9% of Trump supporters.

Regarding the criminal justice system, 81% of Trump supporters feel it is not tough enough on criminals, as opposed to only 40% of Biden supporters who share the same sentiment.

Another aspect where voters diverge is on the topic of deporting undocumented migrants from the U.S. Sixty-three percent of Trump supporters express support for a national law enforcement initiative to deport undocumented migrants currently residing in the country, while only 11% of Biden supporters agree with this stance.

The survey also revealed that 27% of registered voters who back President Trump believe that the legacy of slavery has an impact on the position of Black people in the U.S. today, whereas 73% believe it has little to no effect. On the other hand, 79% of Biden supporters feel that the legacy of slavery continues to affect the standing of Black individuals today, with only 20% believing it has minimal influence.

Despite these significant differences, there are areas where both Biden and Trump supporters find common ground. According to the Pew Research Center, 59% of Trump supporters and 51% of Biden supporters agree that the increased use of artificial intelligence in daily life is detrimental to society.

Furthermore, a majority of Biden supporters (94%) and a significant percentage of Trump supporters (79%) believe that openly discussing mental health and well-being is beneficial for society.

As the political landscape continues to evolve and as the upcoming election approaches, these viewpoints and divisions among supporters of Biden and Trump are likely to play a crucial role in shaping the future of the country.
