Trump and Brown disagree on details of helicopter ride

Former President Donald Trump recently shared a story during a press conference that involved a mix-up between two prominent California politicians. Trump recounted a harrowing experience of almost crashing in a helicopter while riding with former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown. However, it was actually former California Governor Jerry Brown who accompanied Trump in a helicopter in 2018 to survey wildfire damage, and no emergency landing occurred during that flight.

Trump claimed to have a close relationship with Willie Brown and recalled the alleged helicopter incident, stating that Brown had shared negative remarks about Vice President Kamala Harris. However, Willie Brown denied ever being in a helicopter with Trump and refuted the claims made by the former president.

Both Brown and Trump did ride in a helicopter together, but it was Jerry Brown and not Willie Brown. There were no issues during the flight, and California Governor Gavin Newsom was also present on the aircraft. Newsom’s spokesperson confirmed that there was no emergency landing and no discussion about Harris during the flight.

Willie Brown and Jerry Brown have had extensive careers in public service in California, with Willie Brown being African American and Jerry Brown being Caucasian. The relationship between Willie Brown and Harris from the 1990s has resurfaced in light of Harris’s political career, with Republicans using it to question her qualifications for office.

Harris, a former prosecutor and attorney general of California, has been the subject of attacks suggesting she did not earn her political positions legitimately. She has been married to Doug Emhoff since 2014 and has risen through the ranks of California’s legal and political spheres over the years.

When asked about the discrepancies in Trump’s story, his campaign spokesperson declined to provide an explanation, referring only to the former president’s statements. Despite the confusion surrounding the helicopter incident, Trump stands by his version of events and continues to share anecdotes from his life.
