Trump and DeSantis meet in South Florida to discuss 2024 election.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently held a private meeting with former President Donald Trump, spending hours together discussing various topics, including fundraising for the upcoming 2024 general election. The meeting, requested by DeSantis himself, was facilitated by real estate investor and Trump donor Steve Witkoff, as reported by the Washington Post.

The meeting took place while DeSantis was out playing golf at the Shell Bay Club in Hollywood, Florida. As they met over breakfast, it marked the first time the two men had sat down together since DeSantis suspended his own presidential campaign in January and later threw his support behind Trump in a video announcement.

Despite a history of a heated Republican primary between DeSantis and Trump, the former governor’s fundraising network could prove beneficial for the ex-president, who has been trailing in fundraising compared to his general election rival, President Joe Biden. At a donor retreat in Florida in April, DeSantis assured attendees that he would assist in fundraising efforts for Trump and Republican candidates at all levels.

During a private call with his campaign supporters in February, DeSantis expressed concerns about being outspent by a significant margin and hinted at the possibility of a 2028 presidential run, stating that he had not yet ruled out any future political endeavors.

As DeSantis put it, “It’s presumptuous to say this or that. I think a lot happens in politics,” indicating that he remains open to potential opportunities in the future.

In conclusion, the meeting between Governor DeSantis and former President Trump serves as a strategic step towards fundraising for the upcoming 2024 general election, showcasing the evolving dynamics within the Republican Party and the enduring influence of both political figures on the national stage.
