Trump breaks rules, could go to jail

Jeffrey McConney, the former Trump Organization controller, has been called to testify in court by prosecutors. Serving directly under the organization’s former CFO, Allen Weisselberg, McConney is central to the ongoing trial.

The prosecution alleges that McConney played a key role in arranging the reimbursement payment of $130,000 for hush money to Stormy Daniels, who alleged an affair with Donald Trump. According to CNN, McConney testified that Trump was the driving force behind the organization, stating, “[Trump] ran the organization. He was the brains behind it.”

During his testimony, McConney revealed that he was responsible for overseeing the accounting department and approving company expenses, although the actual handling of these expenses was carried out by the accounts payable team at the organization.

McConney disclosed that he has had no communication with the former president since his retirement in February. Despite this, the Trump Organization is covering his legal fees throughout the trial.

This is not the first time McConney has taken the stand in relation to Trump’s legal battles. He previously testified in both the 2022 Trump Organization tax fraud trial and Trump’s civil fraud trial last fall.
