Trump calls Harris a ‘bum’ and criticizes her for failed handling of southern border.
Former President Donald Trump didn’t hold back in his criticism of Vice President Kamala Harris at the Turning Point USA Believers Summit in West Palm Beach, Florida. He labeled her a “bum,” blaming her for the surge of migrants streaming across the U.S.-Mexico border under the Biden administration.
Trump’s comments came as Harris secured enough delegates for the Democratic Party’s top nomination after President Joe Biden withdrew from the re-election race. However, the party’s official nominee will not be named until the upcoming convention next month.
The former president lambasted Harris for her role as the border czar, pointing out the contradicting claims made by some media outlets regarding her position. Despite recent attempts to downplay her involvement in border issues, several previous reports had indeed identified her as such.
Trump expressed his frustration at the handling of the border crisis, emphasizing the drastic difference between the current situation and what he perceived as a successful border control during his presidency. He accused the media of trying to erase the past and shield the administration from criticism.
President Biden had tasked Harris back in 2021 with addressing the root causes of mass migration from Central and South America. Her role involved collaborating with Mexico and other countries in the Northern Triangle to tackle issues like the influx of migrants at the southern border.
However, Harris faced significant backlash this week when the House passed a resolution condemning her as the border czar due to her management of the migration crisis. The resolution garnered a 220-196 vote, with several Democrats joining Republicans in denouncing Harris’s approach.
During his speech, Trump stumbled over Harris’s name, suggesting that there are various ways to pronounce it. He joked about potentially mispronouncing it on purpose and downplayed the importance of getting it right.
In addition to targeting Harris, Trump took aim at the integrity of the electoral process, insinuating that Democrats were attempting to manipulate the outcome of elections. He urged his supporters to mobilize and vote in large numbers to counteract any potential interference.
Trump also touted his appointments of three Supreme Court justices and pledged to nominate conservative judges who would safeguard religious freedom and prevent any attempt to alter the constitution by what he referred to as “Marxist lunatics.”
The Harris campaign swiftly responded to Trump’s remarks, labeling his speech as “bitter” and “bizarre.” They criticized his apparent falsehoods about the election, his proposed policies, and his overall conduct during the event.
According to Harris campaign spokesperson James Singer, America deserves better than the divisive rhetoric and regressive ideas put forth by Trump. Instead, Vice President Kamala Harris offers a forward-looking vision centered on freedom, opportunity, and security.
