Trump claims he should be dead after someone tried to kill him at rally in Pennsylvania.
Former President Donald Trump recently survived an assassination attempt during a rally in Pennsylvania, where his right ear was grazed by a bullet just moments after taking the stage. In an interview following the incident, Trump revealed that he believes it was luck or divine intervention that spared his life, stating, “I’m supposed to be dead. I’m not supposed to be here.”
Trump shared that the attempt on his life led him to completely rewrite the speech he had prepared for the upcoming Republican National Convention, where he is expected to be confirmed as the party’s presidential nominee. Instead of delivering a tough speech, Trump expressed his desire to focus on uniting the country, acknowledging that while there are good people on both sides, there are also divisions that need to be addressed.
The former president commended the Secret Service agents who swiftly intervened after the shots were fired, ensuring his safety and removing him from the danger. Despite his initial instinct to continue speaking, he was advised to go to the hospital for his own safety.
Unfortunately, one rally attendee lost their life in the attack, while two others sustained critical injuries. The shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was swiftly neutralized by a Secret Service sniper, although the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
In response to the incident, security has been significantly heightened for the upcoming Republican National Convention, where Trump is slated to announce his choice for vice president and deliver his official nomination acceptance speech later in the week.
President Biden has also weighed in on the incident, emphasizing the importance of rejecting politically motivated violence and urging Americans to work towards de-escalating the divisive political rhetoric that has permeated the country.
