Trump focuses on anti-immigrant rhetoric before Election Day.

As the 2024 campaign enters its final stretch, former President Donald Trump is grabbing attention for his rhetoric on immigrants and targeting his adversaries. Recent polling by CBS News shows the candidates neck and neck nationally and in battleground states, adding to the intensity of the race.

In a recent campaign rally in Arizona, Trump honed in on a key issue of his campaign: immigration. He vowed to increase border patrol agents by 10,000, contrasting with his earlier opposition to a bill proposing an additional 1,500 personnel. Trump escalated his language on border politics, proclaiming the U.S. as an “occupied country” in the eyes of the world.

During an interview with Fox News, Trump proposed using the military to confront the “enemy from within” on Election Day, singling out Democrats and those who have opposed or investigated him. He referred to them as “sick people” and hinted at the National Guard or even the military as necessary measures.

At a rally in Coachella, California, Trump labeled Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff, who had investigated him in the past and is now running for Senate, as one of the “enemies from within.” He also attacked Vice President Kamala Harris, calling her a “criminal” for her involvement in immigration policies under the Biden administration.

Trump’s repeated use of the “threat from within” portrayal for his political rivals has intensified as Election Day approaches, drawing comparisons to historical figures like Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini. He has consistently called out undocumented immigrants, painting them as a threat to the country.

During a speech in New Hampshire, Trump made inflammatory remarks about communists, Marxists, fascists, and the radical left, vowing to eradicate them from the nation. His language on immigration has become sharper as he approaches the end of his campaign, with references to criminals and violence among migrants.

Recent rallies have seen Trump dehumanizing migrants, portraying them as animals and violent criminals posing a danger to American citizens. He has also pledged to use historical legislation like the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to deal with the immigration issue, adding to the intensity of his stance.

Supporters of Trump have rallied around his border policies, with a majority believing that the Biden administration is intentionally increasing migrant crossings for noncitizens to vote. However, the data shows that illegal crossings at the southern border have decreased, challenging the narrative surrounding immigration.

As the campaign heats up and Election Day nears, Trump’s focus on immigration and his rhetoric against his political opponents continue to drive the conversation. The intensity and polarization of the race reflect the deeply divided landscape of American politics in 2024.
