Trump is okay with RFK Jr. joining debates

Welcome to the Boston Post News network, where we bring you the latest updates and insights on the political landscape shaping our country. In a recent development, former President Donald Trump expressed his willingness to share the debate stage with independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. alongside President Joe Biden in the upcoming debates.

Trump and Biden have agreed to participate in two debates, with the first one scheduled to be hosted by CNN next month in Atlanta. During an interview with Scripps News, Trump mentioned that he would not object to Kennedy joining the debates as long as he meets the eligibility criteria.

According to the criteria set by CNN, a candidate must have their name on a sufficient number of state ballots to reach the 270 electoral vote threshold and receive at least 15% in four national polls of registered or likely voters. Similarly, ABC News has set similar requirements for participation in the debates.

Kennedy seems confident that he will meet CNN’s criteria, as his name is currently on the ballot in six states, making him eligible for 89 electoral votes, and he has surpassed the required threshold in two qualifying polls. However, Biden’s campaign has stated that the president would not agree to participate if RFK Jr. meets the criteria.

Jennifer O’Malley Dillon, Biden’s campaign chair, argued that debates should focus on the two main candidates with a chance of winning the presidency, rather than including candidates with no realistic path to becoming president.

On the other hand, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi expressed her disagreement with Biden’s decision to debate Trump, suggesting that the candidates should have held separate town halls instead.

In his interview, Trump also hinted at the possibility of announcing his running mate during the Republican National Convention in July. The 2024 presidential election is gearing up to be another showdown between Trump and Biden, and the stakes are high for the future of our democracy.
