Trump is promoting more digital trading cards during the election campaign.
Donald Trump is back in the spotlight, but this time not for political reasons. The former president has taken a break from campaigning to launch the fourth round of his non-fungible tokens (NFTs), dubbed the “America First” edition. These digital trading cards feature 50 illustrations of Trump in various poses, including a striking image of him in an Iron Man-style suit.
Trump announced the release of these cards on his Truth Social platform, stating that they are “back by popular demand” and priced at $99 each. He proudly revealed, “These cards show me dancing, even me holding some bitcoins.”
While Trump has faced mockery for his previous NFT releases, he claims that one of them brought in over $4 million. He also shared that buyers will receive a physical card if they purchase 15 or more digital cards, with each physical card containing a piece of the suit he wore in the debate against President Joe Biden on June 27.
In that debate, Biden’s performance was considered a disaster, leading to his resignation as the Democratic Party nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris taking his place. Trump humorously refers to the suit from that debate as “the knock-out suit,” although he downplays its significance.
Those willing to splurge on these digital trading cards are promised tickets to a Trump gala in Florida next month, along with the opportunity to share drinks with the former president. However, Trump’s latest marketing endeavor has not been exempt from criticism.
Jon Favreau, co-host of “Pod Save America” and a former speechwriter for Barack Obama, took to Twitter to express his disdain for Trump’s NFT sales tactics. He believes that such flashy marketing strategies appeal to low-information voters and can have a lasting impact.
Similarly, other Twitter users voiced their disapproval of Trump’s NFT sales, with some comparing it to taking advantage of financially vulnerable individuals. Despite the backlash, Trump remains undeterred in his efforts to capitalize on the growing popularity of digital collectibles.
Love him or hate him, Donald Trump continues to make waves in the digital world with his latest release of NFT trading cards. Whether these cards will hold long-term value remains to be seen, but one thing is certain – Trump knows how to stay relevant and capture the attention of the public.
