Trump may receive Congressional Gold Medal, according to House GOP resolution

A group of House Republicans is pushing to award former President Donald Trump the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest civilian award in the United States. The resolution is led by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, with backing from House GOP Deputy Whip Guy Reschenthaler, Reps. Lauren Boebert, Andy Ogles, Randy Weber, and Mike Waltz.

This move comes as no surprise, given the ongoing support Trump enjoys within the Republican Party. Despite the Democrats controlling the Senate, House Republicans are determined to honor Trump for his contributions to American heritage. Rep. Bob Good, who initially supported Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for president before switching his endorsement to Trump, emphasized Trump’s achievements during his term.

“President Trump did more in four years on behalf of the American people than any president in my lifetime. He secured our border, achieved historic peace in the Middle East, and implemented policies that helped our economy prosper,” said Good. “The last three years of a failed Biden administration have only served as a stark contrast to President Trump’s record.”

Rep. Ogles commended Trump’s defense of the American way of life, while Rep. Weber emphasized that “every patriotic American knows our country was unequivocally better off four years ago under his stewardship.”

Despite the unlikely prospect of the Democrat-controlled Senate passing the bill, the resolution underscores Trump’s continued influence within the GOP. Alongside the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Congressional Gold Medal would further cement Trump’s legacy as a significant figure in American politics.
