Trump’s confusing late-night outburst confuses everyone.

Recently, the former president has been making headlines with his Twitter tirades targeting the Democratic presidential nominee. In a series of late-night tweets, he criticized the nominee for having “absolutely terrible pole numbers against a fine and brilliant young man named DONALD J. TRUMP!” It’s worth noting that, at 78 years old, Trump is actually older than the nominee in question, Kamala Harris.

With Biden out of the race, Trump is now the oldest presidential candidate from a major party in U.S. history. It is safe to assume that the former president meant to reference poll numbers rather than “pole numbers” – a simple typo that sparked amusement among readers.

Despite his attempts to come up with new nicknames and attacks on Harris, Trump seems to be running out of original ideas. From calling her “Laffin’ Kamala” to now trying out “Lyin'”, the former president’s lack of creativity hasn’t gone unnoticed.

But here’s where it gets interesting: “Lyin'” with an apostrophe was also Trump’s nickname for Senator Ted Cruz during the 2016 primaries. In addition to attacking Cruz himself, Trump also targeted his wife and father. Yet, surprisingly, Cruz ended up becoming one of Trump’s most ardent supporters.

The irony did not escape Trump’s critics, who were quick to highlight the hypocrisy in his choice of recycled insults. It’s a classic case of history repeating itself in a rather comical manner.
